Auckland Art & Craft Fair

Millicent Crow has been accepted for the Auckland Art & Craft Fair! I'm going to be selling gocco prints on paper and fabric. I'm really excited about it, do pop in and say hi if you're in the neighbourhood!

Recycling

I found this giant kaftan at an op shop. It had some interesting sewing features like weird gathered bits that seemed to have been done at random, and a long skinny pocket.

Now it's got a new lease of life as a skirt.

I might need to add an extra band of fabric round the bottom though, I don't know that I could maintain my modesty in a strong gust of wind in this skirt! Guess I should have followed the old 'measure twice, cut once' saying!

Is Friday.

Have a good weekend!

Finished

I finished crocheting this scarf last night - it was lots of fun to make, basically just a chain with double crochet in each hole. It's super long and toasty warm, which is just as well because this morning I woke up to a storm outside. Outside the window the world is all green and grey, just like this scarf.

Sewing plans

I'm going to use this...
to make this...
Wish me luck!

Camera case

I made my mum this camera case in the weekend, with one of my patches on it. Good to have something kind of low-fi to surround all that technology!

Seeds in a pod

A little sketch that I did last night. I've got a bit of a collection of seedpods around the house and I thought I'd make a gocco print of them all. Kind of like a sampler, or like those drawers they have in museums.

From the Millicent Crow archives

Well just the recent past actually. It's a tui I drew to give away as a present last year. But the lack of light in the photo makes it look ancient!
Sometimes the desk at the Millicent Crow head office looks like this...

Extra Curricular

I just got hold of a copy of issue 2 of Extra Curricular magazine. It's got a stylish layout, interesting interviews and nice rounded corners. But I think the thing I like most about this magazine is the idea behind it. It's all about people who do creative things in their spare time, balancing their creative endeavours with the demands of jobs, families, that kind of thing. And I think it's nice to have that acknowledged & validated, that creative work does often have to fit around other parts of your life, but that there are lots of people doing amazing things when they've come home from the office, finished that essay, done the grocery shopping, etc. I recommend it.

New Plymouth

We had a fleeting visit to New Plymouth in the weekend; Mr Millicent Crow was playing a show with The Broken Heartbreakers and I went along for the ride. The first thing we saw when we pulled up in town was a house with 5 giant cats sitting on the doorstep, which I took to be a good omen. I later discovered they had a dog that howled along with the town clock when it chimed the hour.

Because the show was in a theatre, we also sneakily tried on some of the costumes backstage. Which made for a whole lot of dorky photos!

Sewing wish list fulfilled

As you can see if you look closely, I've now got a pretty good approximation of the skirt from my sewing wish list...I found it in my local op shop for a mere 4 bucks. So I can cross that one off the list, without making it. Now that's my kind of sewing!
