Feather brooches in the shops

Just a note to say I've listed some of my feather brooches in my Felt and Etsy shops.

I'm hoping to print a giant version of that feather on a skirt for myself this weekend...maybe it'll have to be a reward for when I've cleaned up all the sewing bits and pieces I've strewn over the house this week!

My creative space

I was gifted a wonderful dress a while back, it's the perfect shade of green and I love it to bits and pieces. Unfortunately, though, it doesn't fit me quite right. So I decided to do a little watercolour portrait of it, and hopefully one day I'll come up with a way to alter it to fit me.

While I've got the green paint out, I might paint a portrait of my two green gravy boats, too!

Bird watching

This is a treasure I've carted around through moving house many times...I can't remember where I got it, maybe the dearly departed Rainbow op shop. It's a little pack of cards for identifying birds, with beautiful watercolours and descriptions on the backs:

Aren't they gorgeous?

I really like the idea of slipping these into your pocket if you're going out birdwatching. The packet says the series also has wild flowers, British wild animals, and dogs. Now doesn't the idea of carrying around cards for identifying dogs seem creepier somehow?

Prints in the shops

Just a note to say I've stocked up my Felt and Etsy shops with my new "A Little Bird" series of cards today...
...and Kate from Dash Robin designs is having a very generous giveaway of a custom-made bird brooch. I do believe it closes today so pop over there if you'd like to enter!

My creative space

For my creative space this week I really wanted to have a picture of my MA thesis, which I handed in on Monday. It has occupied such a big space in my life for the past year! But I didn't have my camera with me when I went to hand it in, so instead here are some pictures of a mysterious-looking waterlily head I've been drawing:

From the side it kind of looks like Mt. Taranaki!

Lovely mail

Isn't it great when the mail in your letterbox isn't just bills, bills, bills? I've been lucky to have lots of lovely mail gracing my letterbox lately.

I did a swap with Susie from Flowerpress and received this lovely ruby slippers gocco print:
And this beautiful dandelion:
Thanks Susie!

My brooch swap brooch arrived, all the way from Canada! I love wearing flower brooches. I also got this gorgeous bird embroidery and bunting card - thanks Carolyn!

And I won this book from Sarah's great blog - it's a chronicle of her 5 months as the Frank Sargeson writer in residence in comic form, thanks Sarah! I've been reading it all morning.
Have you had any lovely mail lately?

My creative space

My creative space today is a pile of screenprinted feather patches, ready to fly off to their new home. They're the same kind of patches that I used for this brooch; I back them with wool felt and extra interfacing when I turn them into brooches.
Piled up like that they kind of look like I've plucked a giant crow!

City sights

Sometimes I like imagining myself living right in the central city, maybe in a beautiful historic apartment block where cats ride in the elevator. I love the details on the old stone buildings in town; here are some of my favourites:

Oh and I couldn't resist a photo of these colourful chairs!

My creative space

I stole a moment in a busy day today to paint myself a little bird on a post-it note. Sometimes you've got to use the materials you have to hand!

Now my drab old calendar looks a bit more cheery!

Haberdashery paradise

We went to the BEST haberdashery shop the other day - Antique Fabric and Lace in Onehunga. Almost all the available space is filled with sequinned motifs - it almost hurts your eyes!

What's that saying..."Take only photos, leave only footprints." I was very proud of my restraint at leaving with only photos...this time. I'm sure if I hadn't already had a car boot full of op-shop goodies I'd have left with a car boot full of sequins!
