I redrew a bird's eye view

I redrew this drawing the other day and I'm getting some copies of it printed as A4 prints.  I'm thinking about making it into a gocco print too...maybe venturing into gocco prints with more than one colour!

My creative space: Cardinal

Today in my creative space I've been working on this drawing:

And giving it a makover in Photoshop.

I was going to treat myself to a coffee this afternoon but I decided to spend my coffee money on a couple of tea towels from the op shop instead.  The colours of this one kind of match my drawing:
I think the tea towels are destined to become pouches.
I've also been enjoying my uncharacteristically tidy desk.  Don't worry, the rest of the house is still a tip!
Here it is while I was in the middle of redrawing this picture.  I'm hoping to get it, and the cardinal I've been drawing, printed soon.
Oh and I'm going to be stallholdin' at Kraftbomb's 4th birthday this Sunday!  It's 11-2 at the Grey Lynn Community Centre on Richmond Road.  I'd better rustle up a few more pouches for my stall before then!

My creative space: a bird's eye view

For my creative space today I've got a drawing that I did in good old black biro, then played around with in Photoshop.  It's an idea that I've got for a new zine...which I want to call "Birds Saying Bird Sayings."
Here's the original before I coloured it in Photoshop
Speaking of birds, kind of, I just finished this great book Show Me a Story.  It's a whole lot of interviews with famous picture book illustrators, including the great Mo Willems of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus fame. I highly recommend it.

How about you, what have you been making? Read any good books lately?

Seahorse

I finished off this seahorse drawing and I've turned him into my new blog banner - might use him for some new banners for Etsy and Felt too.  He's ink and gouache on brown parcel wrap and he's a bit like these ones I drew to illustrate a story Mr. Millicent Crow wrote.  My next drawing challenge is to draw some Antartctic explorers!

First Thursdays

Last Thursday night was my first ever First Thursdays market - K Road was festooned with red balloons, there was a zine fest and lots of lovely people came in out of the rain to peruse the market.

Here are some pictures of le stall
I didn't get a chance to check out the zine fest in St. Kevin's Arcade, but at the end of the night I swapped some zines with a lovely lass from Rickitinic Productions, a fellow lover of rickety houses.  It was lots of fun doing a night market on K Road again, it's been a while!

My creative space: bits and bobs and creative tips

In my creative space I've been:
Playing around with different uses for things I've made:
I stuffed one of my owl patches and made it into this stuffy brooch.
Sometimes he lives on my coat
And sometimes with this little collection of things on the back of the stove.
Drawing a seahorse:
I'm hoping to put some ink and gouache on it and maybe turn it into a banner for my blog
And reading this book:
It has some great creative tips.
Today's theme for my creative space is sharing your tips for staying creative and here's mine:

Fit little bits of creative work into your day when you can.  Draw on your lunch break, crochet on the train, sew on brooch backs in bed - chip away at creative projects in whatever little pockets of time you have in your day.  Sometimes you get the best ideas when you've got limited time but you're doing a bit of something creative.  One of my favourite kinds of creative multitasking is drawing or sewing while I'm doing my market stall.

Right now I'm going to use one of Austin Kleon's tips which is "Step away from the screen" and I'm going to take my seahorse drawing up the road for a coffee.  Looking forward to reading your creative tips over here.

Happy Thursday!

Auckland Art and Craft Fair

It was the wonderful Auckland Art and Craft Fair last Saturday and it was a great, busy day.  I had a few new things at my Millicent Crow stall:
Dots on sticks brooches

My new cake stand, covered with feathers
  Pouches, pouches, pouches

 And my new zine
Mr. Millicent Crow was an excellent market buddy
It went so fast that I didn't get much of a chance to look at the other stalls, but I've been having fun looking at all the photos on the Auckland Art and Craft Fair Facebook page.   It was lovely to meet one of my blog readers - hi Sarah! and lots of other crafty folk.  Afterwards Mr. Millicent Crow and I contemplated going ice skating at the ice rink in Aotea Square, tried on silly hats in Smith & Caugheys and treated ourselves to a coffee at the Mezze Bar.
Beautiful lamp shades at the Mezze Bar

Thanks Jess and Kylie for organising it!

My creative space: My Magpie Eye

Bit of a belated creative space for me tonight, I just got home from stallholding at the wonderful First Thursdays market. Here I've got the final image from my new zine "My Magpie Eye" which I've finally finished...I started it way back on the 2nd of January!
I'm hoping to give away some copies soon - watch this space!

More on my market adventures soon, but now I think I need a cup of Earl Grey and some episodes of Parks and Recreation.  'Night!
