My creative space: green leaves

I've been working on painting my green leaf collection today, to go with these red ones I painted last week.  I've had a few clumsy art accidents lately and I managed to smudge blue paint all over the background, but I managed to hide it with some super thick white gouache.  In the weekend I spilt indian ink all over the drawing I was working on...might be time to clean up the workspace methinks.
Here's a little peek at the other drawing I'm working on
And I had to stop and take a photo of this lovely bunting in a pohutukawa tree I found on my morning run.

Happy Thursday to you!

First Thursdays next Thursday

I'm going to be stallholdin' at the First Thursdays market next Thursday (6th Dec) from 6-9pm in lovely St. Kevin's Arcade.  I did the August First Thursdays and it was a lot of fun, there's something lovely about markets at night. The photos are unrelated but I love this little outside lounge in Newmarket, it looks like a good place to sit and watch the world go by.

Just a note to say...

...there's an interview with me on the Auckland Art and Craft Fair blog today; you can read it over here.  The Fair is only two weeks away...I'd better get back to the sewing machine!

My creative space: red leaves

In my creative space today I've got my second attempt at this watercolour and gouache painting of some of the red leaves I've been collecting.  You can see my first attempt in the background here:
I'm hoping to do a version with green leaves too, so that I can have something vaguely christmassy for my Millicent Crow stall.  Although hearing "All I want for Christmas is yooooou" in a shop the other day made my skin crawl!
I like all the reddish splotches on the envelopes I've been using as palattes.
My next project involves these - guinea fowl feathers.  Much as I wish I had a flock of guinea fowl I bought these beauties off Trade Me, from someone in Nelson.  Crazy the things you can buy on the internet!
How about you, what have you been making?  Got any christmassy projects on the go?

My creative space: red white and blue

I've been itching to make some pouches out of my new printed linen and today I whipped one up to see what it would look like.  I was having a bit of a sewing rage day so I thought I'd just make one today, but I think I'll have a pouch-making production line soon!

This little collection

...is what I pulled out of my pockets after my evening walk around Western Springs last night.  I've been collecting a whole lot of red leaves lately, I'm hoping to do a drawing of them soon.
I had to ward off a very angry swan to pick that feather up off the ground!

My creative space: willow pattern

Today in my creative space I've been printing up a storm.  I just got a whole lot of lovely sturdy linen cheaply because it was a bit water damaged and I've been trying out some blue ink on it.

The colours reminded me of willow pattern.

I'll probably sew it up into some more pouches - I've been thinking about making myself a screen printed obi-style belt too - using the same pattern you can see in these photos.

To the is-land

We went to Waiheke fleetingly the other night and I ran around taking photos in the fading light...

My Creative Space

Pinch punch first of the month!  For the start of a month of My Creative Space I thought I'd show you my creative space, Millicent Crow HQ.  It's really just a desk in the corner of my room and it's usually covered in drawing, painting, sewing, screen printing, leaves and seedpods that I'm drawing...and a cat.

At the moment I'm working on inking a drawing of Shackleton and Hurley for a project I'm doing with Mr. Millicent Crow
I've also got some Millicent Crow bunting - a failed experiment at making bunting for a stall in the middle of the night!

I've been enjoying the Halloween remnants around the neighbourhood today:

Especially this little grapefruit-o-lantern my neighbours put out on the porch that we share.  Cute!
